Why is compression best for scanned or image-heavy PDFs?
Compression works by re-rendering each page as an optimized image, so it has the biggest effect on documents already made up of large scanned pages or photos — a PDF that's mostly small vector text won't shrink nearly as much.
Will I be able to select text in the compressed file?
No — since pages are rebuilt as images, the compressed PDF is no longer text-selectable or searchable, even if the original was. If you need to keep text selectable, this isn't the right tool for that file.
How much smaller will my file get?
It depends heavily on the source — a scanned PDF at high resolution can often shrink dramatically, while an already-small, mostly-text PDF may barely change.
Can I choose which pages get compressed?
No — compression applies to the whole document. If only some pages need shrinking, consider splitting those out first with Split PDF.
